About you:

You will work with both the Head Chef & Restaurant Manager to assist in the preparation, cooking and presentation of food to the highest standards in a clean, tidy, safe and pleasant environment. To also assist in the smooth running of the kitchen with direction from more senior members of the kitchen team making sure you provide outstanding food experiences. You will need to support your kitchen to make sure it is fully compliant with Compass process, healthy and safety and food hygiene regulations and run in line with the Client’s expectations.

The great things you’ll do:

  • Prepare and cook sufficient food to provide the agreed amount of customer choice with minimum wastage

  • Ensure the effective control of a specific station within the kitchen

  • Carry out the directions of more senior members of the kitchen brigade, ensuring that you coordinate the efforts of more junior members

  • Ensure all food preparation is carried out in accordance with food hygiene procedures

  • Ensure all food waste are minimised, recorded and where possible re-used

  • Ensure food is prepared to required standards checking for taste, presentation and quality

  • Ensure food is served promptly and work is carried out quickly and efficiently to keep up when busy

  • Ensure all food sent out is correctly garnished

  • Ensure portion control, preparation and storage methods avoid wastage and keep down costs

  • Carry out accurate weekly stock takes

  • Assist in completion of relevant paperwork reproduction and wastage sheets, cleaning records etc

  • Ensure the kitchen and service area are clean, tidy and attractive during service

  • Ensure you know all about the food being prepared and cooked so can advise customers

  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required by your manager

  • Embrace and deliver all aspects of the Client Food Program to an exceptional standard

  • Work with others to ensure that client and consumer expectations are understood and exceeded

  • Promote the Food Program to our Client engaging with them through our food choices, displays, space designs while acting as a Compass Advocate at all times

  • Be polite, professional and friendly at all times with customers, clients and colleagues

  • Be prepared to assist colleagues in a willing and positive manner including assisting with other duties as required

  • Take the opportunity to continuously learn and grow

  • Encourage fresh thinking and initiative in the team

  • Encourage feedback and suggestions for improvement

  • Work with the chef teams in ensuring best kitchen practice

  • Think of ways to make the work environment fun and team driven

  • Observe and comply with all company and unit procedures relating to safety and security, reporting any issues to your line manager

  • Take responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or what you fail to do

  • Correctly use work equipment, personal protective equipment in accordance with training and instructions provided, reporting any equipment issues to your line manager
